The greens are in excellent condition and are coping well during the current dry spell. The greens are heavily irrigated every third night with between 4 and 5mm of water, this is done to saturate the full profile rather than a little and often approach which will just moisten the top inch and cause the plant to stress.
Daily hand watering will continue on the dry patches which occur on banks and slopes of the greens where the irrigation water is likely to run off.
Over watering of greens will result in an accelerated thatch build up, which would make the surface soft, spongy and difficult to putt on.
Greens showing no sign of dry patch in the current conditions are likely to be over watered.
The greens will be cored to continue the removal of thatch and also more importantly allowing water to move through the profile to the roots.
The greens will be verti cut and top dressed twice weekly to promote a true smooth putting surface.
