Lob Shots - July
The key to a successful lob shot is in cupping the left wrist to open the blade - creating angle between wrist and the back of the hand - and holding it through the shot. Most golfers know that they should open the blade a little at the address position, but very rarely do club golfers open the blade when swinging. The left wrist should cup on the backswing and should be held in that position during impact. This will allow the blade to stay open as it slides under the ball with maximum loft and backspin. Experiment using your normal swing for a few shots, then try the cupped wrist and compare the difference to the ball flight trajectory.

Chipping - June
One of the most common faults I see in the short game is golfers who allow their left wrist to break through impact on chip shots, a fault that will lead to many shots being hit heavy or running low through the green. If this sounds familiar try this simple fix:
* Place a long, thin object such as a pen or golf tee down the back of your watch and along the back of your left wrist and hand (not something too sharp though!)
* Grip the club as normal ensuring the object is lightly pressing against the back of your hand
* Try making a few small practice swings and brush the grass where the ball would be - if the object pokes into the back of your left hand you are using a little too much wrist action through impact.
* After a few successful practice swings try a few shots with the ball - if you can brush the grass under the ball and not be hampered by the object along your wrist and hand you should be enjoying some well struck chip shots.
